I AM EBONY
I am a soul with a unique colour, a colour that is known to be
Sun kissed, a colour that intrigues the eyes of a stranger
A colour that is everywhere in the mother land, yet
Its wealth is only found in rare places where the equator
Unites the Northern and Southern parts
I am not pitch black, I am ebony
I have no shame when I show my best to the
Street inhabitants, it is a part of me.
I am not offended even by the cruelty of others
Perceiving me as a dirty human being whom my
parents made. My nature never offended God
I don't see black, I see ebony
Mankind couldn't find the correct word to label me
They only campaigned for offensive labels to
Label me in, which you don't find anywhere else except
With the colonist. The colour embedded on my flesh is not
A curse, the colour that groups me to my nation is not
God's rejection, black is not but ebony is
Being ebony is indeed a blessing, I don't worry about
Unnatural ageing, I don't get anxious about skin irregularities
The sun is my best friend because melanin clothes me
The night kisses me since I have nothing to hide
I am not concerned about diseases because I am healthy
My skin testifies truth by its ebony glow
I see the media declaring our kind as disabled
I hear them calling us "black", their lips speak ill of us
Telling us that colour matters so much, if success is what you
Crave for, then you should consider skin altering agents
For the world to give you praises. Start by denying Ebony
keep the secret of its existence to you till death whispers back your name
Just because I am Ebony skinned, it doesn't make me ugly
Or tasteless, every good thought was thorough about me by the
Creator of all things glorious, he sees perfection at all times
The man that calls me black lacks confidence. History was
Ever unkind to my ebony skinned people, but we forgave the
Enemy that made us inferior time in and time out
I am a soul with a unique colour, a colour that is known to be
Sun kissed, a colour that intrigues the eyes of a stranger
A colour that is everywhere in the mother land, yet
Its wealth is only found in rare places where the equator
Unites the Northern and Southern parts
I AM NOT PITCH BLACK
I AM EBONY
